Welcome First Grade Families 2013-2014!

<--------------Please fill out the 2013-14 Parent Contact Form as soon as possible, thank you!

Welcome to First Grade!

My name is Anna Sanders and this is my 14th year as a teacher. First grade has always been my favorite grade and I am sure this year will be no exception. This will be my seventh year teaching 1st grade and my third year at J V Washam Elementary School. I received a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a master’s degree in Literacy from the University of Nevada, Reno. I have also taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I have been a Literacy Coordinator and have a reading specialist certification.

We will be in room B5. I am very excited to have you in our class this year. We will have a fun and productive year. Working together as a team we will see lots of growth and success for each student!

Open House

Open House will be on August 21st from 4pm-5:30pm. I look forward to meeting you. If convenient, you may also choose to drop off supplies at this time.

First Day of School

We are committed as a school to getting your child home safely. Please use your normal method of transportation on the first day of school. The car lines are extremely long the first few days and I will personally make sure your child is on his/her correct bus/van if they are a bus rider/van rider.

Communication

First and foremost, it is vital that I have your email address. It is much faster to communicate with you this way. If you have Internet access, please go to the class website and fill out the “2012-13 Parent Contact Form” on the left hand side of the website. Next, checking the class website will provide you with most, if not all of the information about our class, so check it often: http://arodriguez.cmswiki.wikispaces.net/

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I always want to be able to address any of your concerns. Your child’s progress and well being are important to me.

Welcome to a great year of learning!

Sincerely,

Ms. Sanders

<------P.S. The new Scholastic Catalogs for September have been posted on our class website and you may order from them anytime. Our first order will be sent in September 1st.

You, Me, and Our Class
One of my favorite things about being a teacher is developing close relationships with parents and students. Please know that you can contact me at any time to discuss the goals, progress, learning styles, or interests of your child. I also actively recruit parents all year to help in our classroom or at home.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you are interested in volunteering your time. Some school activities include working with a small group, tutoring a student, reading a book to the class, helping with activities, and chaperoning field trips. Some home activities include cutting materials for classroom use, scanning pictures, typing stories, researching authors for Author Studies, or gathering books from the public library.

Check back here in a few weeks, there is more information to come.
